Nervous eating disorder or so-called  anorexia nervosa is a disorder characterized by a significant loss of body weight and shape.

Individuals in this type go on extreme diets for fear of gaining weight, and their fear is so severe that they limit their food intake and exercise excessively.

Types of eating disorder: bulimia nervosa

In cases of bulimia nervosa, the person consumes a lot of food in a short period of time, and then the people suffer from embarrassment, shame, and guilt as a result of consuming large amounts of food, so they resort to some compulsive behaviors to empty the food, which may include fasting, vomiting , and the use of laxatives. 

Types of eating disorder: binge eating disorder

Binge eating disorder usually lasts for a long time, and often people with this condition continue to eat even after they have eaten all their main meals, and it is excessive, that is, it exceeds the limit of satiety and leads significantly to weight gain.

In this type of eating disorder, people start to eat more than they should and more quickly than usual, and they prefer to eat alone because they feel guilty and ashamed of the amount of food they consume.

Episodes of binge eating occur once a week for 3 months. In this type of eating disorder, people do not usually resort to compulsive eating-eating techniques as in bulimia nervosa.

Types of eating disorder: Avoidant eating disorder

Food avoidance disorder occurs when a person avoids or limits the food they normally consume, which results in them losing a lot of weight.

It occurs due to several factors or previous negative events, such as: an attack of suffocation, and people show symptoms, such as:  anxiety , vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and an allergic reaction, and a person who avoids food suffers from malnutrition and may need nutritional supplements in some cases. Sometimes to make up for the lack of essential vitamins and nutrients.

Types of eating disorder: Pica disorder

Pica is a subtype of eating disorder that occurs when a person eats non-food items for at least one month. 

Among the materials that a person deals with: soap, cloth, hair, chalk, talcum powder , and other materials.

Types of eating disorder: Rumination disorder

Rumination disorder is a type of digestive disorder that occurs when the contents of food are regurgitated into the mouth after eating it either by re-swallowing, chewing or spitting for at least one month. 

This condition is often misdiagnosed as vomiting or gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Types of eating disorder: unspecified type

This type of eating disorder is in individuals who do not meet the requirements for the other eating disorders mentioned earlier. 

Individuals with this type show very disturbed eating patterns, body image disorders, and an intense fear of gaining weight, and it may negatively affect social life, work, and family relationships.

The similarity between all types of eating disorders is that they may all occur in common with other psychological disorders, such as: anxiety disorders, substance abuse problems, and others. 

The degree of severity of the types of eating disorders may vary until death if the patient does not respond to treatment and adhere to it. Therefore, you must consult your doctor and not ignore these disorders and share with him all the behaviors, their frequency and severity so that the doctor can assess the severity of the risk and develop a treatment plan accordingly.
