Is makeup for pregnant women harmful?

Make-up for pregnant women is harmful?  It is one of the questions that many women ask, and through what follows, we will clarify whether makeup for a pregnant woman is harmful or not?

Many women during pregnancy tend to apply makeup in the morning and leave it on their face until the evening hours, but makeup contains a variety of substances including lead that can pose a health hazard, especially to the baby, and lead to poisoning.

During pregnancy, it is recommended to use lead-free makeup products and try to avoid getting makeup products into the  oral  cavity .

Harmful effects of cosmetic products on a pregnant woman

After we touched on makeup for pregnant women, we must now mention some other cosmetic products that may have some side effects on pregnant women:

1. Damage to whitening toothpaste

Toothpaste prepared for teeth whitening contains oxygen, which is an important compound in the  whitening  process , and most of the time it is safe for use in the elderly, but its effect on the fetus during pregnancy is still unknown.

Therefore, doctors recommend not to use whitening toothpaste during pregnancy and to suffice with regular toothpaste because of the fear that the oral paste will reach the stomach and bloodstream, and from there to the fetus.

2. Hairspray and nail polish damage

The common thing for both of them is that they contain a group of chemicals called phthalate, as it was found that this phthalate material could cause birth defects during its use during pregnancy, but these data did not affect the Food and Drug Administration in the United States (FDA) that found no association between phthalates and health risk.

3. Sunscreen damage

During pregnancy, we must protect our bodies from sun damage, but many creams may contain Oxybenzone, as it was found that women who painted their bodies during pregnancy and carried a female fetus gave birth to girls with a low weight, so it is better during pregnancy. Use a sunscreen that contains zinc or titanium dioxide instead of oxybenzone.

4. Damage to acne treatment products and medications

Many women suffer from acne during pregnancy, as doctors recommend not using lotions or medicines against  acne  if they contain salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or retinol, as there is a direct relationship between salicylic acid and miscarriage if taken. Take it during the first trimester of pregnancy, experts say.

5. Hair dye damage

So far, no studies have been found on the potential effects of hair dyes on pregnancy, so some doctors advise avoiding using them during this period, as   hair dyes   may contain a variety of ingredients, some of which are toxic, so it is not recommended to use them.

Botox for pregnant women

Over the years, the age of pregnancy in women has increased, as many women find themselves looking for solutions to facial wrinkles when they are pregnant and they turn to Botox treatment, but it is important to know that Botox contains a substance called retinol that can lead to birth defects.

Researchers and clinicians say that not enough studies have yet been done on pregnant women who use  Botox  ;  Because this is a relatively new trend, the prevailing opinion in medicine is that there is a connection between retinol and birth defects or miscarriage.

Doctors recommend using face creams during pregnancy instead of Botox. Women who want to be sure can consult a doctor about the safety of the product they use.
